I am not going to say that I am a professional artist or a certified GFX designer, but I can design pretty much anything. Thanks to Stencil & Canva, I can put my imagination into reality.
Today in this article, I will share with you my design secrets. You will learn how I created my art and designs with the help of these two apps. I will review and compare them both to make it easier for you to choose.
A few years ago, I started writing my own blog. I needed banners and artwork to add to my blogs, and it had to be relevant to my content. I wanted to create my own artwork.
So I began using Stencil and another app called Canva, to create my own designs. In this article, we will compare the two applications to allow you to see which would work better for you.
Stencil is a fast image creation software. The company says that this app enables speed and efficiency when creating any kind of images. After doing a great deal of research, I thought I would give Stencil a try. I will focus on the features of Stencil here:
A massive time saver
Stencil’s integrated image library has over a million of high quality images to choose from.
You can create an image one time and tweak it several times (resize) for different platforms without having to create it again from scratch.
Say you have created a graphic for a blog post, you can save it and resize it again for Facebook, then save it and repeat for Twitter. This helps save time and effort to create well-optimized images for all your platforms.
Social Media Integration
The app allows quick sharing to social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Flickr, Pinterest, Buffer and much more.
If you want your readers to focus on the text in your images, then you can enhance your text by adding shadows or an extra layer.
Stencil is a well optimized app that runs within browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari etc.
Watermarks and Logos
Watermarks and logos can be used for copyright purposes as well as to impress clients. I am very fond of this feature personally as it allows me to put a touch of professionalism in my images.
Unlike Stencil, which is software that has to be installed on your PC, Canva is created as a web based app. This mean you need to have an internet connection to use their cloud-based image editor. With Canva, it is really simple to create graphics. Even those with little computer literacy can use this software.A
I find the app somewhat resembles Adobe Illustrator because of its similar features. Canva is packed with a huge database of high-quality images which are all royalty-free. Canva has a wide variety of icons, layouts, illustrations, fonts and other essentials built in.
Although Canva is free to use app, for just $1.00 can also purchase their premium elements pack which has extra bonus tools and features. If you are looking for an easy graphic designing tool to use frequently, then I suggest you subscribe to ‘Canva for Work’. This will enable many more features and possibilities for your working needs.

Canva is a tool that will help you to create a brand name. It has very good UI design which is easy to use. Plus, everything is free except for a few high quality images that have to be purchased and usually cost around $1 – $5. If you want to work in a team, that is also possible with a monthly fee of only $9.95. Add team members and work in projects. This cloud based app can be accessed from anywhere on the go including their iOS app.
